Players still getting inspired and motivated by the miracle boy William Wallen’s comeback
William Wallen, a Swedish professional ice hockey player, is still inspiring others and has become a great example of dedication and comeback in the eyes of all the players, professionals and people from all fields of the life.
The Stockholm, Sweden resident started his hockey career with a junior hockey side in his native country, Djurgårdens IF in under-20 league in 2007-2008. He scored at an average of more than one point per game in the first season by playing 35 games and
scoring 38 goals, 18 of which were goals and 20 were assists.
Due to his hard work and talent he possessed, he got a call from North America next season and he started playing for Mississauga St. Michael's Majors in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). His hockey was going great and he was right on course to his dream
for playing in the National Hockey League (NHL), but then the tragedy happened.
At the age of 17, on 3rd October 2008, Wallen was playing in a game against Niagara Ice Dogs, his team was leading by three goals to one, as it was his first home game with his new team. Suddenly, he started having headache, became unconscious
and vomited on the ice.
There was some bulging blood vessel in his brain, which had burst and was it was bleeding. The young teenager, who had just come to a new country with dreams of playing for a new team, was having a scare of death. He was immediately rushed to hospitals and
treated there.
Their team physician, Tim Rindlisbacher, talked about the severity of problem that his player had and told how quickly he wanted to get him to hospital.
"We're taught in second-year medical school that the worst headache of your life is a ruptured aneurysm. I wanted him to get to the hospital really fast."
The 5-foot-9, 170 pounder, got a treatment and came back to the normal life but it was not expected that he would be able to play hockey again. But he did not give up and slowly started playing hockey and just few months later, he was back at the place,
where he had left.
Wallen, while talking to NHL.com said,
"I was exhausted [after surgery]. I couldn't eat, I couldn't drink”. Then I went back home to Sweden. I started taking short walks with my dog. I would go 100 meters and then I was so tired, I just had to turn around and go back and sleep."
Nowadays he is playing for one of the top teams of Swedish league, Jokerit and doing something that nobody had expected from him. Wallen has definitely set an example for others and has become famous as a miracle boy.
