Players that Liverpool needs to sign in January transfer window
A much needed victory against Blackburn at the weekend has brought back some optimism amongst Liverpool fans. It was the performance more than the result that pleased the Liverpool’s faithful.
A gutsy performance and an attack-minded approach from Liverpool players gave the Anfield fans something to cheer about, for the first time since the start of the season.
But, this isn't the time to get carried away. Liverpool should have a good look at themselves and realize that they need to be at the top of their game at all times to achieve success. Take Steven Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Pepe Riena out of this team
and Liverpool would look nothing but average at best.
The Liverpool team is full of average footballers and when an average footballer is out of form, he looks terrible. This has already been proven by Maxi Rodriguez, Christian Poulsen, Milan Jovanovic and Dirk Kuyt.
Liverpool have no width to their play, Joe Cole likes to play more central and appears to lack ideas down the left flank. Maxi and Kuyt, though hard working, have a poor first touch and are incredibly slow. None of the wingers at Liverpool can beat a man
and whip crosses in.
Fernando Torres has nothing to prove apart from his fitness. When on song, there is no striker on planet as deadly as him. However, Liverpool look short of fire power in his absence. David Ngog has given his best when called upon but he simply isn’t good
enough to be a second choice at a club like Liverpool.
Liverpool have been criticized for playing with two defensive midfielders in the past but, the difference now is that they are not Xabi Alonso and Javier Mascherano. This only highlights the problem that Liverpool has.
NESV’s takeover has given Liverpool fans hope that their new manager-whosoever he would be come January transfer window- will be given a healthy transfer kitty, rumoured to be around 30 million pounds.
Bettor.com has come up with the possible transfer targets for Liverpool, who could well and truly turn Liverpool back into a force to be reckoned with, or more realistically at least help them qualify for Europe.
Winger:
It has to be Liverpool’s priority to sign a genuine world class winger, who can simply walk into Liverpool’s starting line-up. None of the wide players at Liverpool can be attributed as genuine wingers let alone world class.
Ashley Young would be a perfect signing for Roy Hodgson. He is young, English, can play on both wings and most importantly, has quality. He is the sort of player who will bring pace and energy in the wide areas for Liverpool. At 15m pounds, he is Roy Hodgson’s
best choice. Even a swap deal with Ryan Babel could work in favour of all parties.
Centre Forward:
Another injury to Fernando Torres and Liverpool could well and truly stay in bottom three come January. Along with a winger, a striker is a necessity. Another Fernando Torres would be a welcome addition in the shape of Spanish Fernando Llorente Torres, the
6ft 5in striker is a man in demand.
At 25, he is still young and would be a better option than Carlton Cole, whom Hodgson was keen to bring in during the last transfer window, only for the deal to collapse on the 11th hour. Llorente could be available in January at around 13 million
pound.
Others:
Christian Poulsen has been a huge flop, so another central midfielder would be a welcome addition to the squad. Players such as Defour and Lass Diarra could be available for around 12 million pounds.
Even Paul Konchesky has failed to impress Liverpool fans but with some other positions desperately needing reinforcements, he might be able to go through this season untouched.
Conclusion:
Transfers-IN:
Ashley Young – 7m plus Ryan Babel
Fernando Llorente – 13m
Lass Diarra/Steven Defour – 12m
This is a total of 32m pounds spent.
However, if Liverpool could reclaim some of the money they wasted on Poulsen, these new signings could well take them to the next step.
These targets are realistic as long as Liverpool are near the top four, otherwise it would be difficult to persuade these players to make the switch.
