Players to bid at the 2012 US Open Championships: (Part Four) – Tennis Special
While the Top-Four players firmly rein the ATP World Rankings for the past few years, a number of talented players keep struggling to find their way up. You can see a huge lot contestants with eye-startling tennis skills and abilities
but their success is overshadowed by the ‘Fantastic Four” (Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray).
Nonetheless, those talented players keep labouring extremely hard with the hope of getting their reward someday. Another such player will be reviewed in this episode, looking at his positive perspective for the upcoming US Open
campaign.
Janko Tipsarevic – Serbia
Having one of the best ground strokes and formidable baseline defence in his arsenal, the Serbian number two, Janko Tipsarevic, is still to win his maiden Grand Slam title. Currently holding on to the world number eight spot among
men tennis professionals, the 28-year-old veteran is established his place among the Top-10 since the end of 2011 season.
Tipsarevic’s game play is considered to be quite similar to his long time friend and fellow compatriot, Novak Djokovic’s style of playing. Perhaps it is the reason of his success in the professional circuit. The eighth ranked Serbian
has defeated Djokovic twice when he was the world number one and has also registered 12 victories over other Top-10 players till date.
The Serbian vowed to break into the Top-10 rankings last season and was successful at the very end of the circuit. He has hung into the elite group of performers since then and has been riding decent form throughout the running
season. He has managed to bag just one ATP title so far this year, which came at Stuttgart, Germany, immediately after his third round loss at the Wimbledon Championships. Tipsarevic featured his second successive final after his title victory in Gstaad but
was outplayed by the likes of the Brazilian number one, Thomaz Bellucci, in three sets.
Tipsarevic’s performance in the Grand Slam events has not been that much convincing this season. He was ejected from the third round of the Australian Open at the start of the season at the hands of Richard Gasquet. His voyage
at the clay courts of Roland Garros could barely last till the fourth round and this time it was again an inferior ranked opponent, Nicolas Almagro, who hunted him down easily in straight sets.
The world number eight is pretty determined to put up an amazing display of tennis at the hard courts of the glorious Flushing Meadows in August. His best run at any Grand Slam event has been at the US Open last year, when he reached
the final-eight of the tournament, only to suffer a retirement defeat at the hands of his good pal, Djokovic, after a stiff battle. No wonder Tipsarevic aims for an even better performance this time round and I am pretty sure he will break into the semi-final
round of the US Open this year.
Tipsarevic is a crafty player and can formulate some stunning upsets on his day. However, I doubt him to stand victorious amongst the toughest and star-studded US Open filed but a semi-final run will certainly book a spot for him
at the ATP World Tour Finals towards the end of the season.
