  1. it was Bo Jackson

  2. No one ever has and now no one never will, now that this Yankee Stadium is being torn down.

  3. the answer is josh gibson. you have gotten this answer from a lot of people but i have an extra thing to throw in. recently i talked to bob wolff, hof broadcaster, if mantles homerun that went 500 some odd feet really went that far because he was the broadcaster of that game. he said no but mantle once hit a ball in yankee stadium that hit the frieze, hes the only player to do that, that would have gone 700 feet easily. i thought this was a crazy estimate but he said it was the hardest hit ball he had ever seen and when it hit the frieze, which was well over 400 feet, the ball was still rising and going as fast as when he made contact. also the josh gibson homerun went over the left field bleachers.

  4. None.  It has never happened.  Mickey Mantle came the closest.  The guy who said Bo Jackson would've come far closer if he'd said Reggie Jackson.

A guy with an interest in the black leagues of 1920-60 (apparently, Y!A won't let us use their actual name, the "***** Leagues") decided to see if there was any truth to the story that Josh Gibson, a.k.a. "the black Babe Ruth," did it.  He looked in the microfilms of the black-themed newspapers of the time, including New York's Amsterdam News.  If it happened, those would be the sources most likely to have covered the games and most likely to have said so at the time.  He found several instances of Gibson homering there, but nothing that said he hit one all the way out of the building.

This doesn't mean it didn't happen, but it does mean the people with the most interest in saying it did, did not say so at the time.  For this reason, I have to conclude that it's incredibly unlikely that it happened: If it did, why didn't these papers say so? Gibson was apparently a great talent who would have excelled in integrated baseball, but it looks like he didn't hit a fair ball out of Yankee Stadium.

  5. There is no **official record of anyone ever hitting the ball out of Yankee stadium.

However, there are many rumors of a ***** league player Josh Gibson hitting it out in a game there in the 1930s, but since there's no official records, nobody can really prove it.

  6. Josh Gibson
