  1. No. The PS2 compatibility has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the hard drive size. Remember, the old 20GB PS3 could play PS2 games as well.

PS2 compatibility needs the PS3 to have a particular type of graphics chip. The current 40GB PS3, and the cut-price 80GB PS3 that is coming out in September, do not have this chip. (And no, it isn't possible to buy the chip separately and install it inside the console.)

  2. As already said in here - HDD has nothing to do with PS2 games. In order to run PS2 games on PS3, the console must have some hardware from PS2, 40GB doesn't have it, so, unfortunately, PS2 games can't be played at all.

  3. no yu need to have the 80 gb one to play most games that are 2006 and newer

  4. The best way around playing PS2 games on a PS3 is to get online with your PS3 (if you have not already got it)  and then just do a system update and you will be able to play most of the PS2 games out although some may have minor glitches.

  5. NO, it doesnt depend on the hard drive size, even if you change your 40gb to 80gb or other size, it wont still play ps2 games, it does not depend on the hard drive size, its on the mother board, its inside the ps3..So, no..

    hope i helped..Goodluck!
