Question:

Playing Volleyball?

There were forms passed out for a volleyball club this year. It starts Tuesday. I really like to play and it's nearly the only sport I actually have fun playing.

My only problem is that I had surgery on my serving hand in late November. It was a minor surgery (a cyst was removed from my palm) and my hand's still a little sensitive. I just now am able to do push-ups in gym. But, it sends a shock all the way up to my elbow whenever I bump or serve. I am willing to work extra hard to do this, but do you think I should go for it or not? And, if so, how can I work my hand to make it a little less sensitive in the next 4 days?

  1. you should really wait until the next year

no matter how much you want to play, if you are just barely able to do situps think about how much serving, passing and spiking, and divign and excercises you will be doing

tell your coach that you would love to play but cannot due to your surgery, maybe ask if you could be manager or something?

    thats always good

  2. its in the way your hitting it try getting it more on the fat part of your hand

  3. If I were you I would consult with a doctor and/or trainer to find out if it's okay for you to play.

  4. uhh i would wait until next year, you wouldn't want to injure yourself anymore then what you already are!

    You should

    Practise at home,

go the the practises for the team but only watch

Tell the coach that you would LOVE to play but you are injured ( she will think about you for the coming years)

Maybe ask if you could be like a Play maker or something that is important but doesn't take a lot of work:P

    hope this helps yah!

  5. you don't want to injury yourself more....but tell your coach how much you love to play, you could be a setter they aren't supposed to use your palms, or  a ds that's not your palms either, another thing you could do is serve underhand, or if think that any of these things will hurt you and you still want to be part of the team then maybe you could be a manager

  6. I would tell the coach exactly what you said in here.  You really want to play but your hand and arm hurt when you pass and serve the ball.  They make let you tryout and give you some allowance.

  7. I think you should just take it slow. maybe sit out this year so you dont injure your hand more but still practice on the sidelines. Gradually you can work up to it playing again next year.

  8. yes definitely go for it. im sure you'll be fine. if it's bothering you though, have it checked by your doctor and maybe you can get sport tape or something for your hand/wrist.

  9. The best person to consult would be your doctor that did the follow up on the surgery.  If you are still experiencing some sensitivity it may be part of the recovery but none of us know your history or the condition of your hand in its present state.  You would want to get advice from the expert which would be your doctors and follow their advice to prevent further injury and prolong the healing process and your enjoyment of a sport that you may want to play later on.

Again, consult with your doctors and follow their advice and make sure they release you to play the sport.

    Good luck.
