Playing a ps3 game and gta 4 patch?

Question

--If I play all of the ps3 games,will it just play if i insert it like what the ps2 does?what if i wont install it?just pop and play?

--If I play all of the ps3 games,is the GTA 4 the only game that needs a patch?games like assasins creed,mgs 4 and all of the ps3 games?

--if i installed the latest 2.42 update for the ps3,do i still need the latest gta 4 patch if i just play offline?

please help me.

If you do install 2.42, you don't need to install the GTA 4 patch for online play. If you were to play online without installing the GTA 4 patch, it will just ask you again if you want to install it.

The patches are only for online play. You don't need to install the patches if you're only going to play single player. It would be pretty stupid if you had to install patches to play single player if you didn't have broadband only a PS3.
