Playing audio FLAC files?

Question

I was given four FLAC files and am told they are all audio files.

What can i use to play them, or better still is there a program i can use to convert them to mp3 or such?? Doesn't need to be free.

And just curiously, why do people use FLAC files? they aren't standard use as far as i can tell so what would be the general purpose of using that format?....am just wondering.

FLAC files are hands down the BEST format for music play back. unfortunately not many audio players will except flac, heres the program you could download to play the songs on your computer http://flac.sourceforge.net/download.htm...
