Question:

Playing better?

I know how to play volleyball and stuff, so i don't want to know how to do anything. Just tips to make me better, be a better teammate, and stuff like that. Also, how often do you buy new kneepads, and what are some good things to do to get better by myself? One more thing, how to make a coach notice you more at tryouts? I'm kinda short, and even though i made the team, i kind of slipped under the coaches radar. How to not do that again?

  1. loud, determined, a lot of heart! aggressive!

  2. Yay shortee's!! (i'm with ya... shortest one on the team- whoot!)

If you want the coach to notice you you need to do 3 things:

    1. Be loud... want the ball. Before the serve goes over think "I want this ball to come to me, because i KNOW i can pass/set/hit it". Be agressive, don't let someone else take it if you have seam! Also if it comes near you scream "ITS MINE ITS MINE" Or "I GOOOTT IT!!" as loud as you can before it comes to you. If you're a hitter, outside, middle, or back. if you're a back row hitter, scream red for right back, white for middle back, and blue for left back right BEFORE the set.

    2. Encourage your teammates. Talk to them, try to get to know them. Do stuff like say "next time!" to the one who missed their serve, and congratulate everyone on the team when they get a good play. Reach out to help the person who dove for a ball up, and say something like "way to hit the floor". Have a good energy... One energetic person can spark a whole team of amazing players.

    3. Hussle and pay attention to coache's advice. Coaches love entusiastic players who work hard. When the ball flys away, run to get it instead of walking. Put your best effort out in every drill, and always be willing to ask for help. If you don't act lazy, nobody can accuse you of it. And you'll get better the quickest this way. Don't ever think "i don't know how much longer i can take this" just suck it up and work harder for even thinking about stopping.

As for the new kneepads... I've had mine for 2 years and they're holding up ok, but i reccomend new ones each year... especially if you're on defense like me... diving is so much fun!!!!! i swear i could dive without the ball and have just as good of a time...

    Good luck this season!!

  3. hey im short too maybe theyll put you as a libero if your agressive willing to dive and go for everything., and work on passing and serve recieve. and serving they sometimes put liberos in for bad servers. well good luck

  4. knee pads dont really matter. I mean, I cant play with knee pads on! I dont think you have to change your knee pad as long as they fit your legs.

I guess to be a better player, you have to push yourself and be a supportive teammate. Team work is SO IMPORTANT in volleyball. Make sure you call the ball really loud the coaches will notice that kind of stuff. Be loud, enthusiastic, and outgoing in general!! If you're short or wtvr doesnt matter. Most of the time though, the short girls in our team work hard to be defense specialist. Make sure you work hard on your specialty and show it off!
