The former French international is proud to have made the decision to join Bayern Munich in 1997 and regards the time at Allianz Arena the best in his career.
Bixente Lizarazu made a total of 182 league appearances for the Reds in two stints at the club. The full-back established himself as a vital player at the Allianz Arena and won five Bundesliga titles, five German Cups and the UEFA
Champions League in 2001.
The defender joined Bayern in the summer of 1997 after some powerful performances for French side Bordeaux and Spanish La Liga team Athletic Bilbao. He achieved immense success both at domestic and international level, and was
considered one of the best left-backs of his time.
Lizarazu claimed that Bayern is a club with great history and culture and is delighted to have played for the German side. He admitted that the decision to accept the offer from the Bavarians, while at Bilbao, was arguably the
best decision of his life.
The 42-year-old stressed that the eight years spent at the Allianz Arena were the most successful of his career and admitted that he learnt a lot from the Munich based side.
“Bayern doesn't forget its players and its history. I'm delighted I decided to accept the offer from Bayern back then. It was the best decision of my life as a footballer. It feels good to be part of this club. The eight and a
half years with Bayern were the best time of my club career,” he was quoted as saying in an interview to the club’s official website.
The former French international expressed his delight on being named in the club’s Hall of Fame. He feels honoured with the award and thanked the club for everything.
“I'm very proud when I see my shirt in the Hall of Fame. I have to thank the club. And the video with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Oliver-c28477 Kahn is hilarious. There I am, the man Oliver Kahn called ‘the little French guy’,” he concluded.
Bixente Lizarazu also had 97 caps for the national side to his name and scored two goals.
