Playing guitar (beginner) urgent help?

When tabs are say 7 fret 4 string,7 fret 5 string,7 fret 6 string-I strum (by mistake) strum 65432 string all together.is this the right way to strum,if not then how do you manage to strum only 3 string?(strings are so close to each other

  1. What helped me to have some control when I first started playing was to place my pinky on the pick guard and use it as an anchor or reference point since it stayed in one place.  If you are playing your example I would say that it should be played as an upstroke.  That is, struming towards you upwards instead of away from you downwards.  Practice resting your pick on the 4th(D) string and on the side that is closer to the 3rd(G) string and pulling up  Also, you can use another finger on your fretting hand to mute the strings you don't want to play.  That way if you do end up hitting them with your pick they will not sound.  Just don't mute the strings you want to sound.


  2. practice practice practice.

    try resting your palm or the side of your hand on the bridge, or you could try plucking each string individually with you fingers...

    and dont rush yourself, it all takes time.
