Playing in 2011 World Snooker Q School was tough, says Craig Steadman – Snooker Update
England’s Craig Steadman has earned his place in the professional circuit of the 2012-13 Snooker Season after he performed tremendously in the 2011-12 Players Tour Championship (PTC) series. The Englishman did try his luck in the 2011 World Snooker Qualifying
School (Q School) but he failed to improvise accordingly and crashed out of all three events.
He was quite disheartened but he continued his good form in minor ranking snooker tournaments like the PTCs. His impressive performances in these events brought him up in the PTC Order of Merit and he was able to book his place in the pro tour of the new
snooker season. He admitted that playing in the 2011 World Snooker Q School was indeed tough for him but it was a great experience.
While speaking to World Snooker about his Q School and PTC experience, Steadman said, “I played in Q School in 2011 and struggled. It's tough to play for a place on the tour over three short events. So when I heard that the top eight players on the PTC Order
of Merit in 2011/12, not otherwise qualified, would win a place on the tour, I made that my goal to get one of those places.”
He added, “That way I knew I wouldn't have to go through Q School in 2012. Plus winning matches in the PTC events gave me an indication that I was good enough to play on the main tour.”
Snooker governing body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) initiated a new idea in 2011 for the first time by the name of World Snooker Qualifying School (Q School). The basic purpose of launching the World Snooker Q School was
to give an opportunity to the emerging snooker talent to play on the professional circuit.
The World Snooker Q School consisted of three events which featured 12 potters overall who got a chance to play in the qualifying sessions of the major ranking events in the respective snooker seasons. The formula resulted in a tremendous response which
is why the WPBSA decided to continue it for the next seasons as well.
