Playing in the Asia Cup boosted my morale and confidence, says Hammad Azam – Cricket News Update
The emerging Pakistan all-rounder, Hammad Azam, said on Tuesday that playing a run of matches in the quadrangular Asia Cup tournament in Bangladesh, earlier this year, has boosted his morale and confidence.
Azam, the 21-year-old Attock-born Pakistani cricketer said that he was given a proper chance to show his mettle in the regional One Day tournament, hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Sri Lanka.
"It was great to be given a run of matches at the Asia Cup and the backing from the captain and coaches and my team-mates was very encouraging. I was given a proper chance to show what I can do and that really boosted my morale and confidence,” said the
rookie all-rounder during an interview with a sports website.
"I am hopeful that going forward I can repay the faith shown in me by the captain and coaching staff. It's not easy to be in and out of the side, but as a youngster and as an inexperienced cricketer sometimes that happens, you have to wait for your opportunity
and you have to bide your time," he added further.
Hammad Azam made his One Day International debut on April 23, 2011 with a match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at Gros Islet. So far he has played eight ODIs for Pakistan, scoring 76 runs and claiming two wickets. The rookie all-rounder debuted in the shortest format
of the game in February this year during the three-match T20 series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 in UAE.
Azam also expressed disappointment over the postponement of Bangladesh’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 last month. The right-arm medium pacer said that they were really looking forward to play international cricket at home and the interference of Dhaka High Court was
very sad.
Pakistan is next scheduled to tour http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in June this year to play two T20 Internationals, five One Day Internationals and three Tests between June 1 and July 12. The first T20I will be played in Hambantota on June 1, 2012.
Pakistan Cricket Board will announce separate teams for all the three formats in a couple of days. Azam is one of the strong contenders for the tour of Sri Lanka.
