  1. I taught myself, no lie. I got two songs in 3 days, never played it in my life. I think its easy, learn how to read guitar tabs and you'll be fine.

  2. go to youtube and start by watching basic lessons

  3. Work on the basics string by string. then quick notes in a row. Try picking over strings. Try doing some chords. Then practice basic solos. Go for the Harder Chords. Finally work on those huge solos. The time depends on how long it takes to pick up on it. I'd say about a year of hard work.

  4. Well it all depends on how much you practice. I never had any lessons. I read the Guitar for dummies book and practiced everyday. It took me about 3 months to be able to look up tabs of my favorite rock songs online and be able to play them. Now almost 2 years later i can play almost any song i want to that isn't like really really fast. And just to give you a tip: when first starting off, make sure you learn scales. I never bothered learning them so i can't really solo. I hope this helped.

  5. Well i've been playing for like 6 years and at this point i can get music for any song and learn it in like a day. (unless its really hard) But I was able to play a lot of songs after like 6 -9 months. It seems impossible at first but it's an awesome thing to do and its very enjoyable if you can play good. So good luck =)

  6. It depends how much you practice. Ive seen people practice several hours a day and become really amazing guitar players within a good year.

  7. Depends entirely on you.  Some people have more natural aptitude than others, or a better ear for music, or better hand-eye coordination. And it also depends on how much time you spend practicing, and WHAT you practice.

If you really want to learn to play, you need to spend time learning chords and scales and gaining an understanding of how music is put together, in addition to learning songs.   If you spend all your practice time learning famous guitar solos and intros from tabs, you'll be a trained "tab-monkey" who only knows how to play those few bits and pieces of songs but nothing else.  That's not really learning to play guitar.

You can probably learn a handful of chords and be able to play simple folk or rock songs in a couple of months.  But to be able to improvise, play by ear, and play with other musicians easily, in whatever music style you want, will take years of study.

The study of guitar is a lifelong journey.  The more you learn, the more you realize there is to learn, and you never get to the end of it.  That's the fun part :-)

  8. It really depends on how often your practice.

I would look up videos on youtube to learn some basic skills.

    Then learn some scales.

    Then attempt songs.

Learning scales really isn't need unless you want to play fast, but they still help train your fingers
