Playing well against spin requires consistent hard work, says http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 – Cricket News Update
Geared up for the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 captain, understands that facing spin is going to be a huge challenge for the England batsmen and refused to comment on India A’s team selection.
The first of the four-match Test series is going to commence from November 15 at Ahmedabad, with both the teams desperate to outclass each other. India wants to avenge their last year’s defeat at the hands of England; whereas, the Poms want to jump up the ranking once again after losing the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757.
It is most likely that the home side will attack the visitors through their spinners, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/PP-Ojha-c2198, taking into account England’s weakness against slow bowlers.
Earlier this year, the Poms were completely outclassed by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Abdur-Rehman-c41691, who bamboozled the English batsmen with their spin and bounce.
Cook admits that England have a problem against the turning ball but understands that the issue cannot be addressed overnight and it requires a long-term strategy. The England captain takes heart from his side’s victory earlier this year against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Colombo.
“You can never address the issue totally - it's something which we have to work consistently hard on all the time. We had a fantastic Test match in Colombo - we won there as well and again it's a notoriously very hard place to go and win,” he said.
The Indian selectors did not pick any regular spinner for the recently-concluded tour match against England. The move to deprive the English batsmen practicing against spin bowling has been immensely criticized, especially in the British media; however, Cook is not too fazed and just wants to focus on the job in hand, instead of the uncontrollable.
The left-handed opener added, “We are not in charge of who they pick. We can only control what we do and we'll have to get the best out of that game and we'll get the best out of these two weeks. So we are ready. We cannot use any excuse whatsoever.”
