Question:

Playing with the kitten?

We got a Kitten a couple of weeks ago- and having previously only bought full grown cats- this is our first kitten. He is very snuggly and loving- but I have a question about playing with him. Sometimes he gets so full of energy he just has to run around and attack things- playfully. He attacks the dresser, bags, ect. But he also tends to playfully attack people. Since he is so small it really doesn't hurt- but I was wondering if letting him playfully attack us can make him more aggressive/more willing to hurt people when he is older. When he plays with us there is no anger- he is just a kitten having a good time playing. This is our first kitten and I want him to grow up to be a completely normal and stable cat.

Thanks!

  1. No when he gets older he will mellow out.  whatever you don't hinder his ability to play and attack like that cuz thats what being a kitten is all about.  I love it when they are that age they are so cute the way they run around with their backs arched up hopping around ears back eyes all wide and running a marathon all over the place thats the best it only gets better!!!  Have Fun:):):)

  2. My kitten did that (11 years ago) - it's just a baby kitty thing. They get so excited and have this pent up energy that all the sudden they just GO NUTS! and attack things, playfully. Enjoy it, it's cute and adorable. My kitty stopped around 9 months? 6 months? It didn't take long. I mean, they get the hint if they accidentally do it when they're bigger and one time they get too excited and you yelp and jump... it scares them that they scared you! Otherwise, grab a spray bottle and get trainin'!!!

    Good luck!

  3. Just being a normal kitten.  It is very important that you let the kitty know if it hurts you.  I started yelling ow and showing pain when the kitty bites me too hard.  My cat now will start to bite then stops herself and will start l*****g me like to apologize.  Don't just try to push him away, be loud and stop playing with him if he hurts you.  If you just push him away he might think it is part of a game. My last cat was attacking everything as a kitten, after about 18 months she calmed down a lot.
