  1. If you are just going to use it to play games, then get the 40GB one, it would be enough. If you are going to use it for anything else, then get the 80GB, as you might need the extra space somewhere down the line.

  2. extra space is for photos, music, videos, and some games need up to 4 gigs just to install. get the big one or the small and a sata hard drive . you can change to up to 250 gigs this way.

  3. well the 80gb also has slots in it for memory sticks, sd cards, and video capture cards. and it has 4 usb ports, the 40gb only has 2

  4. They don't make the 40gb anymore. They are all 80 gb. If you are buying it used then it will boil down to if you want it to be backwards compatible. The 80gb is $399 now.

  5. The extra space is for demos.

And saved data utility like mgs4 needs 5GB of space before you start playing.

Even if you change your mind and get the 40GB you upgrade the hard drive with a Toshiba hard drive.

  6. Just wait for the newer 80GB PS3 model to come out because it will be the same price as the 40GB PS3 ($399), although it will not be compatible with PS2 games... only the current 80GB PS3's bundled with Metal Gear Solid 4 and older 80GB PS3 models that were bundled with Motorstorm are backwards compatible with PS2 games.

Amazon.com will have another shipment of 80GB PS3 Metal Gear Solid 4 bundles coming soon and it may be your last chance to get a PS3 that is backwards compatible because the Metal Gear Solid 4 bundles are a Limited time offer.

However, if PS2 compatibility is important to you, I say get a 80GB PS3 now while there are still 80GB PS3's that are backwards compatible... to me it's worth the extra $100 bucks for PS2 compatibility because I just like to be able to play all my Playstation platform games on one console without having to pull out my PS2 to play a PS2 game.

And when you said, "An extra 40GB for what?", believe me, once you start getting a few games for the PS3, you'll definantly want to have a pretty nice sized hard drive already installed for plenty of games without any worries about your hard drive filling up too quick because there are some PS3 games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue that take up around 5GB EACH because of a hard drive installation... you'll want to have a PS3 like the 80GB with plenty of hard drive space already installed, trust me.

But if you do ever run out of hard drive space, you can always buy a larger hard drive though, and it's easy to install.

  7. extra space for downloadinf Sh** off of the playstation network that costs mone een with the 40 g u will still have way more memory than u will ever need 80g is a waste of money

  8. Actually, Sony discontinued the 40GB. They don't make it anymore. Because on August 27, they are releasing another 80GB called the 80GB Core that will exactly be the 40GB with 2x the hard drive. You find the 40GB at some stores because they still have it.

I recommend getting the 80GB. If you can, try to get the 80GB MGS4 bundle. You get somewhat PS2 compatibility, flash card readers, 4 USB ports, and Super Audio CD support. However, the upcoming 80GB won't have the same stuff as the current 80GB. Like I said, the upcoming 80GB will just be a 40GB with 2x the hard drive.
