Question:

Playstation 3 Buying Dilemma ? Help please

Ok so its my birthday on the 20th august, with help from a family member i can get a staff discount on a 40GB Ps3 costing £256 however the new 80GB is coming in game station pre-order on the 27th at £299, so I am wondering a couple of things, is it worth waiting for the 80GB and would it be worth the extra cost and also is the cost of the 40GB likely to plummet when the 80GB comes out?

Thanks in advance for any help

  1. I'm pretty sure the ONLY difference in the new model is the extra hard drive space. I don't think it's worth the money, but it depends on how you will use it. If you think you would use all of that extra space to copy music to the PS3, or maybe download movies, then maybe. But, if you do that, 80gb might even be too small. You can always upgrade your hard drive at a later time. You can get 250GB drives very cheap, under $90 US. If you need more space in teh future, just buy a hard drive then, don't waste the money up front.

  2. there may be some offers on the 40GB, tho sony may have been clever with the amount of stock it has left, I'd day if you really want something to play now, that is a good discount, are you really looking to use over 30GB of hdd space? you can always run movies and music off a USB stick too

  3. Theres pretty much only a few up sides to it:

    *Extra 40GB's

*Same money as the 40GB "£299"

*Comes with a Dualshock 3/Sixaxis hybrid controller as standard

One big downside - (It's got the same features as the 40GB)

*This model will be the only one to choose from...

*Sorry mate you can't play yer PS2 games so keep yer ps2...

-The extra features such as card readers and usb ports are already available by separate companies (Nyko and Pelican are trying to make these features as discreet as possible)

    Hope that helps

  4. Get the 80GB one because it's only £43 more to get double the amount of GB.

  5. The new 80GB model that is coming out at the end of August/early September, is missing backwards compatibility, and flash readers.  Also it only has 2 USB ports instead of 4.  If backwards compatibility is not a big deal, then this is a pretty good model to look into to save some money.  It also is using better design to allow for a cooler running system, though I haven't heard of any of the older PS3's overheating, so who knows.

  6. well, i really think you should just buy the 40 gb. i mean, are you really going ot use all that space? i mean, are you going to buy about 80 games to play? then you might wanna go with the 80 gb.

  7. i got my ps3 about 3 days a go and i love it if i was you i would just get it  because their are great games to get eg unreal tournament 3, haze, civalation revolutuion, motorstorm, resistance,  and you will not need and extra 40gig

  8. check out the cool box the new sony playstation 3 games console comes with. http://ps3.uk.net/reviews/PS3-80gb/715
