okay, if I use a HDMI cable, how can I get the audio into my surround sound system?

  1. - HDMI from PS3 to TV to get video. Connect optical from PS3 to receiver to get surround sound.


  2. See the diagrams showed on the link I posted in the “Source” section.

    Check section 2 that says "Connect digital audio devices". I hope this information helps.

This is how i did it: Take the two sound cables (Red and White i think), then plug it in to your surround system central (my DVR), Then Seperate the HDMI Cables (blue green etc) Connect that to the tv (seperate from the central) And there you go. (notice that the red and white cables are connected to the blue and the green: Just Rpi them apart Gently (they should just peel apart) No damage will be done)

  4. If you connect HDMI directly to TV - then you need to connect PS3 to surround system via Optical cable.

    If you connect PS3 to surround via HDMI - HDMI already passes sound to the system, so you are all set.

    If you have a sound system which does not decode sound via HDMI - use Optical cable.
