Ok, My friend's best friend (sorry if thats confusing) 'doesnt eat'. He has been like this (ill explain) since he was 4-5. He is 12 turning 13 soon. He eats candy, chocolate, etc. and fruits like apples and what not, but no meat or vegies or anything. He is not hungry, and he insists that he is not. He's like never hungry only at certain times of the day and he doesnt eat much when he is. He drinks normal fluids like water, tea, flavored water, sodas, etc. Just about everything. Hes never made himself throw up, nor does he throwup after eating. He just doesnt have the desire to eat lots of/ more food.

Is this a medical problem, and if so can it be fixed? His parents know. please he doesnt have yahoo! so i really need answers, and I want to know about his well being.

  1. Well he should have some medical or nutritionist help. You could ask this question on Answers Health. Under All Categories.

  2. He may actually be getting more food in him than you think... If u or he was to write down EVERY BITE he takes in a day, u will be surprised how much he is actually getting in. SINCE u said he is only a couple of pounds under weight.

I went thru this w/ my daughter...her dr. suggested the food journal.

    Good luck!~

  3. Well my dad is sorta like that too but he eats meat and veg. but not fruit. Make sure your friend takes a multi - vitamin. Beyond that there is nothing you can really do except hope that his parents take him to the doctor and talk to the doctor about his problem!!

  4. Some people just don't have the same appetite as others. As long as he actually eats some food through out the day he should be fine. Being 3-4 lbs under healthy limit for his age isn't that big of a deal. For years I was way below that "healthy limit" but I was actually healthy. If you all are really that worried, take him to see the doctor.

  5. I think that he should see a registered dietitian.  They would be able to make him and this parents understand a proper nutritional diet.

I sounds like he drinks enough to make himself feel full so he just doesn't eat.
