I am an A&P, I don't mind being a little raw on grammar as my Manager at LIne international/domestic, would say, "if you're good in grammar you might not have been here as a technical man."

yet I find that here questioner mostly wants to be a pilot and yet their grammar & spelling is so outrageous.

  1. i agree with you and think that some people do that for other reasons besides the fact they didn't  finish high or didn't pay attention in class so there are a lot of reasons why people do that some people do that to be different other beceause they didn't learn how to spell the words right.

  2. Right on! You are so correct. Yesterday, I saw an answer posted by someone who said he was going into the military. I won't say which branch. And it was here on YA---Aircraft. In his answer, he typed "infintry" (instead of "infantry") and there was another misspelling as well. There have been many more here, but that's one from yesterday that stands out. Your attitude about spelling and grammar could mean that you pay attention to detail and are compulsive (so to speak) about doing things correctly. Those are qualities I'd want in an A&P. Not saying someone couldn't be a very good A&P with bad grammar and spelling, but the more detail-oriented, the better. Besides, the technical publications are not just pictures. Good reading and comprehension skills don't hurt.

  3. You are quite correct. I think there's a lot of people that have yet to realize that we are judged (it's human instinct) by how we write and speak. And for someone who wants to be a pilot, and be taken seriously, better results with questions come from better grammar. I have heard that America is "dumbing down".

I had an opportunity once to read a collection of letters written by Civil War soldiers. Letters written to home while they were away. I was so impressed at how well those people could write. It was artistic how well those people could convey a thought.

This is funny. I heard a comedian say if the Gettysburg Address was written today, it would sound this way. "Like, four score, and like, 20 years ago???  Like, our fore fathers????  Ya know???  It was funny to hear the whole thing.  Good observation on your part to post the question.

  4. What is it with you British that think everybody in the world wants to learn your language?

    :D

  5. So what are you asking? And to whom?

  6. I would also add that some of the folks asking questions are young people and English may not be their first or even second language.

Might want to keep that in mind.

  7. and that matters why?

  8. I agree. :)

  9. since your asking this in the aircraft section.A lot of people here work for Airlines and have long days .so when i come home at night after a long day the last thing i care about is my spelling or capitals any how its not like your going to be asked how to spell Mississippi while doing a touch and go or ATC asks you to list all places you are to put capitals in your sentences before you get clearance for take off  !

  10. WuT r U taKiN AboT?1/!/!??/ I"m just kidding!:)
