She comes like the husht beauty of the night

And sees too deep for laughter;

Her touch is a vibration and a light

From worlds before and after.

Edwin Markham

Is he speaking of an angel? Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

  1. i think its about a girl he cared for

maybe he lost her or something

  2. Sounds to me, like he is speaking of a memory coming back to him....................

quite possibly a past love..........perhaps one who is now an Angel,  literally, (passed on).......and yet he is still haunted by her memory.......and she, still visits his deepest thoughts often.

Every vibration he feels, perhaps her touch.........

every sound he hears......perhaps her whisper.............from worlds he cannot yet comprehend nor fathom.

  3. I think he's talking about not a person.. but maybe the wind? Thats just my opinion.

  4. Paraphrased:

    he loves her

    she is very wise

she has a way with words, and is consoling

she has seen and experienced both good times and bad

    I just love metaphors.

  5. sure sounds that way to me.

  6. He specified a gender, SHE, so he wasn't talking about an angel. Its a woman he was talking about, which if taken metaphorically, it could represent an idea, a memory, or the alike.
