Please,how can i get from J.F.K International airport to mount vernon east via train?

I have not been to new york in years.Although I should be able to get to port authority bus terminal at 42nd street, I don't know the next route(Via Train) to mount vernon east

Go to Grand Central Terminal, on the east side of Manhattan.  Once in Grand Central, you need a New Haven Line train.  They're usually shown in red on the scheduling boards, and the trains themselves have red stripes on the sides.  

The other lines, the Harlem and Hudson, are shown on the boards in blue and green, respectively.  The Harlem line will also go to Mount Vernon, but it's the west side, and you specified east.  The Hudson line goes up the Hudson river to Yonkers and Tarrytown, so it will not help you at all.
