My dad bought me a horse to ride! But I asked a question yesterday about how long I should wait to ride my horse! A lot of people said that I could ride him today! I can't seem to convince my father that I am ready to ride this horse and that I am ready to be bucked or I am ready for anything he may do! He says that I need years of experience riding horses but he put me in lessons when I was 6! He said he bought him for me to ride! Please Help???

  1. I rode my mare the day after we got her. I think your dad knows that sometimes the horse will test you. So tell him that you should at least ride him in your barn or riding pen, or riding ring, what ever it is you got. Since you have experince you should be fine.

but i would use this time to bond with your horse. Its not all about riding most of it is trust.

    GOod luck

  2. u can ride him anytime u want. just make sure u can trust him and he can trust you. that is the best thing that can go on between you and your horse... trust :)

  3. Did he buy this horse for you to grow into? Are you still taking lessons? Has this horse been ridden before?

Your dad is probably only being protective. Ask him if he would be willing to pay to bring your horse to a boarding facility for a while (if he isn't already in one). That way you can have an experienced trainer around, and your dad can know you'll be safe.

  4. wait why did he buy you a horse if you not allowed to ride it?

  5. show your dad that the horse trust you then maybe try to ride him in a lesson with an experienced trainer to help smooth out the kinks. Always remember to wear a helmet and it might make your dad feel better if you wear a chest protector.

hope this helps...please best answer this!

  6. Was this horse a surprise gift for you or did you ride him before your dad purchased?

If you rode him first then I'm certain he would not have bought him if he and you didn't feel it was the right match for you.

If you haven't ridden him before..then I would suggest riding him with someone there.

Also, perhaps you dad is a little leary since you stated that you are ready to ride and be bucked off  or whatever else he might do????  Ummmm that was not the best thing to say..even in jest...unless you have a fear???

Have you spent ground time with him, shown him around....unless he was bought to be a lawn ornament..then act like you know what your doing and don't make silly remarks to make him second guess the decision to buy you a horse.

Do you still take lessons?  Did your instructor feel that this horse was good for you?  Ride him in a lesson...this just doesn't make sense...how long have you been riding for?

I really don't understand this whole situation of your dad buying you a horse not to ride????

    Can you explain more???

  7. Your dad is just worried you'll get hurt. Ask him to come along with you and walk next to the horse while you are riding. My dad watched me get hurt a few times but I lived through the injuries(minor) and he made it too. Dads tend to be very overprotective when it comes to daughters. He did tell me I was doing something wrong one time so I asked him how to do it right. He got bucked off into a small pond. I couldn't lookat him for a week without cracking up. He had mud and dead tadpoles all over his rear end!!! LOL

  8. i had the same problem u do my mom didn't want me 2 ride him to early cause u need a bond with your horse! it is SO important do ground work fr a week then show him around your barn and let him used 2 things and let him get your trust!! i mean i went and jumped into riding my new horse and guess what!  i bashed my face into a fence I'm okay but I'm not the same anymore and what I'm trying to say i get to know your horse b4 u ride riding isn't everything! and i bet Ur not ready to get bucked cause i know i wasn't and i was and Ur farther jst wants u to be safe but do ground work jst go out to see him and maybe jst brush and i bet ur horse is sacred being in a new home jst lik u would u need to give him time to adjust and i bet u guess will be the best just give him time :)

    -Hope this helps
