Please Answer!Slow Runner Trying To Get Faster!?

Now,yesterday i ran 5 miles in 40min flat.so i know that isnt a great time for me.im gonna be 17 next month,5'7" 147lbs.i want to know...

what could make me faster?

should i put in a speed workout in my week?like run 1 mile fast,rest,then 1 mile,rest...and so on?

  1. Well, first of all, an 8 minute-mile isn't anything to sneeze at, so cut yourself some slack.  I've always found the best way to improve running speed is to actually train at the speed you want to run.  So figure out what your goal is.  Let's say, for example, you want to run 7 minute-miles.  Then run at that pace for as long as you can.  Stop and walk until you have more wind and then do it again.  Do the combo of run/walk until you're able to continuously run at that pace for the length of time that you desire.  Good luck!


  2. Well stretching is a big part of running and so is having water to keep you hydrated.Keep walking for at least an easy 30 minuets then speed up slowly until it doesn't hurt to run faster then you thought you could!!
