My inner tube has a whole in it. its not big, it looks like a small needle pieced it or something, the hole is small. Is there a common household object i can use to stop air from escaping?

  1. First, follow the advice of the other respondents and get a patch kit.

Resist the urge to use duct tape or electrician's tape.  First, you will end up with either a fast or slow leak.  Second, the tape will not allow the tube to expand as it should when it is re-inflated.

Besides, if you keep riding your bike (we hope you do; it's a great thing!), you will have another flat sooner or later.  And then you'll have your patch kit ready and waiting.  Or you'll be able to help someone else with a flat.  That person will love you forever.

  2. go to Walmart and get a Slime brand patch kit. It's a self adhesive and much less messy than the patch/glue combo. Patch the hole (not whole) and you are ready to go.

Inflate the tire afterwards and check for other holes. also feel inside the tire for the offending cause.

  3. Yes, it's called a tire patch. You can get a patch kit almost anywhere for a few $$$.

  4. I suggest you go to the local shop and ask if they'd show you how to use a patch if you buy the patch and another tube. It should cost under $10 together and you'll know what to do. You'll have the knowledge for the rest of you life.

  5. I think patches are a waste of time and effort.  If you don't do it right or the road is hot, they leak or fall off.  Spare tubes are cheap, so just buy a half-dozen and keep them at home for when you get a flat.  Buy a liner for inside the rim, too.

When you get a flat, try to find and remove the thorn/glass/wire/nail whatever that punctured it, throw away the old tube, then put in a fresh tube.  Then you don't need to worry about a leaking patch.

  6. Go to your local bike shop and buy a patch kit. If the people who work in the shop won't show you how to use it, then ask any experienced cyclist. Every experienced cyclist I know would be glad to show you how to fix a flat for free just because they love the sport. It's easy to find an experienced cyclist. When you go to the bike shop, they are the ones drooling over the most expensive bikes in the place.

  7. LOL

In my house, tire patch kits and spare innertubes ARE common household objects.

I think a trip to the bike shop is in order.   Neither of the above are budget-breakers.
