Please HELP, my ferret got out?

I think she got out last night, we tore the house apart and still cannot find her. We have looked everywhere outside. My husband has walked everywhere, within a mile radius looking for her. We have put up some flyer's with our number. I'm so worried. I don't know what to do. I feel like I lost one of my children. Do they come home if they get hungry?

  1. No, they don't come home. They tend to get curious and lost.

    =/

I'm terribly sorry she got out.

    I hope you find her!

    Good luck.

  2. did u try putting like 3 pellets of food out in each room and keeping doors closed. she might be hiding.

try putting harmless traps around your yard.

put some of you ferrets belongings outside so maybe if she comes back she might stay.

if your ferret is never out side until they get out then he/she might not know to come back.

also check for holes or signs of digging in you mulch. ferrets like to dig in dirt

  3. When mine have gotten out, I walked around my home with a squeaker toy. Most usually get attracted to the sound and come running. I've usually found them pretty fast by using that.

I'm very sorry that it got out, that is really tough. Mine are like my children too. I would be extremely upset if they got outside.

I clicker train mine now. Click the clicker, when they come to investigate and stiff the clicker I give them a treat or bit of diluted ferretone. Now whenever I use it no matter where they are in my home, they come running trying to race each other.

I hope you find your Ferret, good luck! Keep looking, call the shelters too.

One thing the link mentions is:

Place your ferret's cage or carrier outside with some of his used bedding in it. Sometimes they can smell their way home. Check the cage frequently for signs of his return. Ferrets are most active during the early morning or evening hours. CAUTION: Try to set the door of the cage in such a way that only a ferret can get into it. Cats, possums and raccoons can be opportunistic freeloaders if they smell food and may raid the cage if they can get into it.

  4. She is most likely still in your house. This happened to me once when I had ferrets and it was in a small apartment but I couldn't find her and thought she got lose, 2 days later I found her in my kitchen drawer with the bagels.  Go out and buy some wet ferret food or some treats with a strong smell and place some in a pile in the middle of each room. If she hasn't escaped the house, you  will find her either eating the food or there will be food missing. Good luck and I hope she is still in the house. If she got out, they are not good with directions and will probably get lost quick. GOOD LUCK! I hope you find her.

  5. put a small carrier outside one which a cat wouldnt be able to get into, put some bedding in it and its food the smellier the better. also try and spread some of her poo around the outside of your house and by the carrier this should attract her in.

does she have a favourite squeaky toy? if so walk around calling her name and squeeking the toy.

make sure you have checked everywhere in your house like under and in sofas ferrets can find the wierdest places to sleep, also check that there isnt anywhere she could of gotten stuck or hurt.

inform your neighbours she has gone missing she may be in one of their gardens, inform local vets and rescues and put up loads of flyers.

dont worry too much it has be known for ferrets too go missing a few days at a time and then just turn up like nothing has happened.

good luck in finding her, im sure she is fine!
