As i mentionned before i have hard time stopping my 4 year old mare, she stops not too bad with my trainer, but the way he stops her is sloppy, my trainer's back is way in the back and the horse's head is pointing at the sky. the way i try to stop her I say whoooooa, and immediatly after open my legs, and take the slack out of the reins. the part i wonder about is my legs, where they should be in my run down? in the back , neutral, ???

So maybe my mare is getting confused, for my trainer and i don't have the same cues. I can stop me wife's gelding pretty good almost 20 feeet, but i jump out of the saddle with my mare. Is me the problem???

Sometimes a person is stuck with a trainer they don't mesh with, or the communication is stale.

If a show or clinic won't find you a new trainer that answers your questions AND shows you why and how to do it yourself, you might have to add to your research a few books and DVDs on your sport.  Reining is getting Nationally famous with that USA win in Aachen Germany, its the largest growing horse sport, mostly because the excitement is indoor and easy to watch.

Legs: rundown, neutral, stop, forward. The more you guys use different cues the worse it will get, your paying someone to mess up your mare.Try web Link and look for videos, have someone video you( you can use a phone-camera, digi cam, etc) When you watch your work, you see much more. Luck!

  2. follow this ex on WALK, 1 say woohhh,

    2  squeeze ur knees ,

3-- try to pin down ur horse on ground with ur heels( with ur weight  bit backwards.)

4 now give a very nominal hint with reins..

Mind you all this u r doing on walk . do it 50 times  . 51 st time , the moment ull  squeeze ur knees  , the mare will halt , without even waiting for the hint from reins..

golden rule --" wat a horse cant do at walk , it just cannot do  in canter."

and get rid of ur trainer..
