Please Help, Question on Oboe

Hi! I recently bought my first oboe, and it came with a green tube with holes. I think it is like a heater or cooler. Does anyone know what it is and how I work it? Thanks!

  1. That is to keep your oboe a constant humidity. In drier climates you should use it. In more humid environments it may not be as necessary.

    If your oboe dries out too much it can crack. That can lead to intonation problems as well as making some notes impossible to play. Repairing cracks can be very costly and sometimes the instrument never plays the same.

    My advice is to ask your private teacher if you should use it and what RH (relative humidity) you should keep your case at(if you don't have a private teacher, get one).
