I'm selling a drum on craigslist for $700. I have received emails from a person who wants to buy it, but is unable to pay in cash. I told him (on email) that I only accept cash. He gave me his home address and i researched on it. The address he gave me was not his home address, it was a mortgage company building. He keeps on insisting that i send him my name, address, and phone number so he can send me a check. Does this sound fishy to you? What should I tell him?

Whoever gives me a best answer, gets 10 points and 5 stars!

Thanks!

  1. Tell him under no circumstances will you give him your name and address, tell him to get a bankers draft made he shouldnt have a  problem with this,if he does then somethings wrong when i was selling my car someone over seas emailed me and wanted to buy they said ;i will send a cheque for double what the car cost and you can use the other half to ship the car to me when i askjed in my bank they said its a scam the cheque will clear at first then a few months later it will be taken back out of your account because it was found to be a fraudulent cheque so your out of pocket on your account and you have no car so be wary

  2. Oh wow... dont do it. I am assuming by your picture that you are a female, this is way to dangerous!!! I would not give him any of your personal information at all. Tell him if he has the ability to write you a check, he can withdraw the money, meet you in a very public place (make sure you bring a man with you to meet him) and pay in cash!

Please be careful, there are a lot of predators out there just looking for someone to mess up.

Try advertising on Ebay as well, may get better results!

Good luck! And please be safe!

Plus you never know, the check may bounce, or not be real, then you are out the money, and have no drum :(

  3. It sound very fishy. Do not give your information to someone like that its obvious that he is lying.

  4. Have him call his bank and do a draft. They will take the money out of his account and put it in yours.

OR....have him mail you a check to a different address.NOT your home. Wait until the check clears THEN give him the drums.

OR.....have him go to his bank and get a cashiers check. They immediately take the money from his account so it is secured.

OR you can have him use paypal.

The address thing could be legit. Maybe he has moved since then and the name of the mortgage company is his Landlords mortgage or owners etc.

  5. yea its fishy
