  1. An idea? Let me see... I believe that career is the first aim of education. Why? It's because I believe a future career serves as the motivation. In education, it is important to know where you're headed before you actually move forward. If you have no idea where you're headed, it's like you're at the crossroads. Besides, if you don't know where to go, you'll end up regretting it in the end.

Have you noticed little kids' dreams? "I want to be a doctor!" or "I will be an engineer!" or something like that. That little dream serves as the enthusiasm for the kids to study. It serves as the sole reason why they even bother to go to school. [no offense..ü]

If you know what you want, surely you'd put effort to have it or make it happen, right? A future career is like that. In order to attain that career, one would work hard [study hard, etc.]. And when you finally achieve your goal, it gives a kind of warm feeling inside as if saying, "I did it!"

That is all my puny mind can produce..ü

  2. Do you go to Ballajura? I am an ex-student there, and I know that Ballajura is in the semi-finals for the year eight debating competition. If you are, good luck! Ballajura forever!!!!!

  3. 3 points.

    1) The first aim of education should be a career because skills relating to other aspects of life can be learned more readily outside the classroom. Therefore, the best way to direct classroom time is to teach children what they need to know to enter and survive in a workplace environment.

    2) The first aim of education should be a career because it is one of the only ways that information can be almost guaranteed to reach every child, and workplace skills are something that everyone has to develop, no matter what they want to do. Therefore, it is common sense that something so important would be directed through such a surefire medium.

    3) Finally, the previous points are moot because the first aim of education IS a career. The origins of education were for the wealthy to learn to work, and to oversee the work of others. The sons of watchmakers learned to make watches and the sons of kings learned an array of skills necessary to fill the role of presiding over a country. Thus the affirmative clearly wins because in this debate the problem is non-existant. The first aim of education IS a career, and always has been. Considering that, and the fact that the first two points demand the motive for education stay the same, the only wise vote would be in favour of the affirmative team.
