Ok so there's this problem I'm confused about.. I was wondering if someone could help me understand how to get it:

The King took a cup filled with juice and drank 1/5 of it. When the King looked away, the Jester refilled the cup by adding water, then stirred it. The King drank 1/4 of this mixture. Again, the Jester refilled the cup with water and stirred. The King drank 1/3 of this mixture. Again, the Jester refilled the cup with water. What percentage of this final mixture was water?

Thanks for any help ;]

  1. he drinks 1/5 and the jester fills it, he now has a mixture of 80% juice and 20% water.

he drinks 1/4 of that so he took away 25% of the mixture (what he drank was 5 water and 20 juice...that makes the 25% and keeps the 80% ratio) and fills with water so now there is 60% juice and 40% water.

then he drinks 1/3 of that (so about 33.3% of the drink). that means he drinks 20 juice and 13.3% water. If he drinks 20 juice then the juice is down to 40% now and, with the rest filling with water, that gives us 60% water.
