I´ve caught this frog in southern Mexico but i don´t know what kind of tree frog is, i want to know if they can be kept as pets because where i found it all it´s habitat was destroyed and evrything was polluted, specially the pond near where it was. I took some pictures, i would be glad if you can tell me the common name and species: http://s186.photobucket.com/albums/x201/WILLIAMF117/?action=view&current=061908220045-1.jpg

  1. ive seen this before at petco

    COMMEN NAME;tree frog

it my be a young white tree frog or a white eyed tree frog go to a local petco or pet-smart/pets-mart

they have good supplies for tree frogs if your planning on keeping it

  2. Here is a listing of all the amphibian species which can be found in Mexico. Alas, none of the pictures on this site was a good match to the frog you have.

I don't think it is a red-eyed tree frog, as red-eyes typically have slits in their eyes and a striped pattern on their sides (neither of which your frog has.)

Do you have a zoo or university nearby? You'll probably get a good answer from someone (in a biology or herpetology department) locally who best knows the species in your area.

If you do find our for certain, do let me know!

  3. This looks like a red eyed green tree frog, which can be found in Central and South America as well as Southern Mexico.  You can read more about it and compare, in the website below.

  4. That's a pretty special find, there, and if you found it outside of west Mexico, then it's newsworthy. It might even be newsworthy for habitat destruction. That beauty is Pachymedusa danicolor, and is a monotypical species -- the danicolor is the only species of the Pachymedusa genus.

I don't know of any common name.

Pachymedusa is a closely related to the Phyllomedusa suborder of Hyldiae (tree frogs). Phyllomedusae are noted for their vertical pupils.
