  1. Hypothesis generation would be generating (or creating or identifying) your hypothesis.  What do you think is going to happen?  Hypothesis testing is what you're doing when you conduct an experiment or some other type of research study.  You're using the experiment or other research method to determine if your hypothesis is correct, hence "testing" your hypothesis.  Is what actually happened the same as what I thought was going to happen?

  2. Very simple:

    Basic outline of scientific method:

    1.  Do research to come up with a problem that science can address

    2.  State the problem.

    3.  Do more research to see what others think about it or similar problems and what has been done to solve it.

    4.  If you have a better idea, and can support it with your research, state it as a hypothesis (basically a testable educated guess, based on elimination of what has been previously tried and failed and whatever new ideas have come up in your research or your attempts to think the problem through) - ALL OF THE STEPS ABOVE ARE HYPOTHESIS GENERATION

    5.  Do more research to identify an appropriate way to test the hypothesis and composed a research design spelling out the testable implications of your hypothesis and how you will test it experimentally or by doing more research (materials and methods you will use to test the hypothesis).

    6.  Perform the research or experiment you have designed.

    7.  Examine, analyze and explain the results.  Take lots of notes.

    8. If your hypothesis failed, do more research or thinking to figure out why and pose a potentially better way to approach the problem.  If it succeeds, figure out why, how, and whether or not you think the hypothesis is a truly good solution.

    9.   Publish the entire thing, even if your hypothesis was disproven (or it will all have been in vain)

STEPS 5-9 ARE COMPONENTS OF HYPOTHESIS TESTING.
