Please Help dilemma?

I am really worried i am 5ft 6 and 160lbs but i dont have any excess fat i do sports such as karate that i have done for 6 years and i was woundering why my bmi is still saying i am slightly overweight i felt fine about my weight but now am not to sure becasue i worry if ppl will look at me and think am fat. am 18

  1. don't worry about your figure

    Its best to consult a doctor to advice you, otherwise the best thing is to really cut down the fatty foods and increse the fruits and exercise as much as you can whenever you have time. Find out what exercises are best for you

    One more thing- You shouldnt worry about people thinking your fat- you should worry about your health more


  2. your BMI is just that, a body mass INDICATOR. it's a general rule of thumb for measuring the mass of a body, if you are of a muscular build the height/weight ratio will indicate the mass of your body is higher, it is not neccassarily fat.

    To get a true evaluation of your body fat you need to have skin measurements taken to ascertain the thickness of the fat layers in your skin.

    Don't take BMI to seriously, it's calculated with the average measurements of all people, so to make an average some have to be higher and some have to be lower, otherwise we'd all be the same!

  3. Your BMI is not at all excessive, and guidelines are just that: one can safely be a little under and over. Not all people have the same metabolism and at 160lbs you are within the margins for your height and your age. Also remember that muscle actually weighs more than fat. The fact that you are practising sport would convert any fat into muscle and this may well account for the very slight weight variation. If you feel fine within yourself there really is no cause to worry. Look at all the athletes who took part in the Olympics, and you will see there is plenty of flesh on many of them, and they are not all skinny. Your doctor would definitely reassure you as I am doing now.

    These days so many people are obese that you must look positively slim to people around you and many must envy your splendid conditioning. Anyhow what matters is that you should feel good about yourself. If you do so, you will exude positive vibes and this is what counts, so carry yourself with pride and stop worrying unecessarily.
