My toddler (21 months old) has oral thrush. I have looked everything up possible on this crazy internet! She has had it since last monday, it cleared up but then I noticed it again last night on the insides of her cheeks. I called doctor today and they said to finish out the nystatin and if it was not gone to call them back. I am not really sure where she got this from..although she does take a pacifier..shes not been on antibiotics in a while. When I first found out she had this I boiled all her sippy cup tops and her pacifiers. I didn't clean the toys (was not thinking about that, this is her first time having it.) So I am not sure if it came back because of not cleaning the toys and only boiling the pacifiers once. Everything I look up on here I see stuff about HIV/AIDS, cancer and all other bad things. I am stressed out abou this right about now...Can anyone help?? or has anyone gone threw this with there toddler....thats another thing, didn't think that toddlers would get it....

  1. Don't freak out. My son had it. Bad. When it would not go away after two rounds of meds, the doctor had me bring him back and they "painted" the inside of his mouth with this purple medicine. It was messy and stains everything. But it cleared it up in one try.

  2. My son never had it as a small baby but had it not long ago and he's a toddler, i just got him some medicine from the docs and it went, if it had came back i would just do the same again but clean everything, Good luck :)

  3. It is common for children to get thrush. I've worked in many daycare centers, and it usually goes around in spring/summer months.

  4. A lot of kids get thrush when they are worn down.  I am sure it is nothing serious.  Eating some yogurt everyday helps.

  5. You got good advice. Here is one more suggestion: Just clean the medicine dropper. If it is plastic, soak it in hydrogen peroxide. That kills germs. Then, you can use it to measure her medicine and put it in a spoon. Don't worry, thrush is very common. She'll be fine.
