I am 37 weeks and 5 days. last week or more i began feeling intense pressure and discomfort against my bum and cervix, when i went for my internal at 37 weeks i was 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated and Ob said the babies head was extremely low down. Anyhow, the past 3 days I started having period type back pains and thought that possibly it was the start of labor. My mother came to stay in hope of the impending birth, she has had 7 children and been there to deliver 4 grandchild. When she saw me she believed it was the beginning of labor, but the pains never progressed and each day they would come back and then not progress to anything! My husbands parents came over today and early in the morning i began having intense dihreah type cramps all over my back and front, my mum said to the inlaws that she thought i might be going into labor (they did not know of the false labor all the days before - for a reason) and they just sat there and never planned on going anywhere. My father in law being quite rude to me, so i have not left my bedroom since and the pains once again have not progressed to anything. My mother is furious and thinks that having him here is preventing my body from doing its job because i am stressed. Do you think this might be whats happening or that the past few days and today is just false labor. My mum is certain it is all real labor just taking its time. But its my first and i am so confused. Help me! Sorry for long post. : (

  1. Definitely sounds like labor pains to me.  . . dear.

Time those Braxton hicks and if they start becoming clocktic and incredibly painful call the labor and delivery.  That's so wonderful that your family is there to support you.  That's truly wonderful.

Wishing you all the best.  Congratulations and good luck on the delivery of your baby.  *hugs* x*x

  2. With your first especially, it can take days of what you've just described before it actually progresses further.  Is your husband/bf around to talk to those in-laws?  It might still be a while, it might tonight.  It is also rare to have braxton-hicks (not impossible but rare) with your first child.  Those feelings you're having are probably real labor.  It might not hurt to go to the hospital to ask.  I don't think the stress would stop anything, but it might.  Your mom's had 7 children, I'd go with whatever she thinks.  Also it might not hurt to call the doctor or nurse on call and explain and ask for an opinion.  Best of luck.

  3. you should go to doc with my first i thought i was having false labour but i kept complaining so they checked and all that time i was dialating and my labour pains went on like that for 4 weeks stopping and starting its the first sign the babies cord could be around the neck which is what happened to me with my baby he came three weeks early you really should get checked it is important especially if you feel something is up.
