  1. Remember that perpendicular lines have slopes that are negative reciprocals of each other.  The slope of the first line is -2, so the slope of the second line must be -1 / (-2) = 1/2.  Since m=1/2 and b= -2, you have all that you need to write the equation of the line in y=mx+b form:

    y = (1/2)x - 2

  2. required line is y = (1/2)x -- 2

  3. start by recalling lines can be written as

    y=mx+b

    in this form, m is the slope and b is the y intercept

    for two lines to be perpendicular (meet at right angles), the slopes of the two lines must multiply to equal -1.  So if the slope of the given line is -2, the slope of the line you are seeking must be 1/2

    thus, the equation of a line with slope =1/2 and y intercept =-2 is:

    y=1/2 x -2
