  1. 1. The angle of elevation of polaris is your latitude. Ergo, Angle of Elevation is 43, you are at 43North. If you can't see polaris. You are in the southern hemisphere.

    2. Time zones are based on longitude. Knowing the time zone gives you the general range of the earth you are in.

    3. Earth's rate of rotation is per hour is what dictates where the time zones are. Every hour, the portion of the earth at noon is on the edge of a time zone.

    4. Using a map. You align the compass indicator *commonly the red outline* with the red arrow that is homing to magnetic north. The number of degrees from north points to the area of the thing you want to locate. *so long as it is on the map and everything is aligned properly.*
