I am currently a sophomore in private school and am miserable. the school academics suck, the adminesatration and students as well etc. I am very interested in doing this honors program at my community college that is renowned by ivy league colleges and is respected. you do that for two yrs, and then start as a junior in college which is good for me bc i wanna major in medicine and it take a while. problem is i cant get a hs diploma from my private school (they are $$ hungry and woodnt give me one) and i need to make up the classes for my "junior" yr. my local public school wont offer me tutoring/teachers over the summer. I figure maybe i can do the program and at the same time take these classes or maybe over the summer just hire a teacher (still much cheapoer than my private school), do I have any other options? what do you reccomend doing bc it is an amazing program! (called MTS if that helps) please help!

  1. There are homeschooling programs to fit your every whim. You need to make a list of the classes required by the honors program. As well as any other requirements.  Then you need to meet those requirements tracking test scores, attendance, etc.  You need to find out if they accept homeschoolers. They should as we live in a more progressive society today.  The diploma is nothing these days. Transcripts, exit exams, and SAT's are everything. The diploma is only the wall art prize.  I was never asked to show my diploma only my transcripts and there are a number of programs out there that track your information for you.

It's difficult to really answer what you are looking for.  You need to know the laws for your state, you need to research different curriculums.  There are all types, literature based programs, science based programs, computer programs, math heavy programs, programs that tie religion into learning.  Visit  your local homeschool or teaching resource center. Even better would be to visit a homeschooling convention near where you live. Find homeschoolers locally who can help you find resources where you live.  That is the best answer I have to offer.

  2. Well, I'm homeschooled....And I persoanlly dislike it....I've lost all my friends, and lost the social outings....Pretty much everything....

It is alot easier, I'll tell you that, but....I wouldn't suggest it though....But some people love it! Everyone's different....

    Here's a few websites....

    http://www.connectionsacademy.com/

    http://www.k12.com/

Connections Academy was really easy, I regret switching from it....

Also most schools, you don't have to pay for, unless it's private....

And for me usually it takes around 4 hours if I take my time....I can do it in alot less time, but I slack off and stay on myspace, lol....It usually doesn't take that long....

I've been homeschooled since the 5th grade....

  3. homeschooling, and cyber charter schools both allow you to work at your own pace and choose your courses.

cyber school may not let you enroll mid year tho, you have to call them and find out.  This has alot to do with getting you switched out of a school and the funding from tax dollars, but check it out now to enroll for the next term, and maybe they will let you start early.

good luck with the honors program!  i have spoken with several students involved in them, they are well worth it!

(its a bit slow here tonight, I'm sure some of the hsing parents will be along shortly, or in the morn to fill you in on the hsing procedures)

  4. I don't understand why people don't give their state when they ask questions. It all depends on the state you live in, each one has different rules for this situation. In CA you can pass a state exam when you are 16 or a sophomore that says you have finished high school. This isn't a GED, but better than that. You can also take CC classes without graduating from a high school if your parents will sign you in. There are also schools that give you online credits that are run through the UC system and are high level classes. I would do the program, it sounds like you are motivated to do it, and they will probably let you in, it depends on the state.
