Please Recommend me some books?

What are some uplifting books? Or light reads? No romance, please. Something funny would be nice too but I'm not really into dark humor.

Keeping Faith by Jodie Picoult

My Sister's Keeper by Jodie Picoult

These books are more serious, but still uplifting, although My Sister's Keeper is a somewhat sad book.

If you're not a mundane, try Gordon Dickson and Poul Anderson's Earthman's Burden, and Hoka.  They are very funny in not at all a dark way, though they mightn't suit you if you aren't into science fiction.  They aren't gadget heavy, however, so you might not find them too difficult to get into.
