  1. Bonding means the credit union can get insurance on you in case you steal stuff. Everywhere I've worked handled it behind the scenes; I didn't even know I had it until I changed jobs.

    Basically, they want to know if you've ever been convicted of a crime. If you've previously done time for embezzling, uttering (passing bad checks), forgery, or things like that, they can't insure you. And if they can't insure, they probably won't hire you.

    By being bonded, you also promise not to commit crimes while working for the company. I don't know the specifics where you're applying, but my job has a policy that if you're convicted of any crime, you're fired.
