hi everybody,

in my neighborhood there is a recycling trash container where you are only supposed to put in newspaper and junk mail. but people are deposing cardboard there as well, even though it says in big white letters that they cannot throw cardboard's in there. so my question is, what will happen to all the cardboard when it is taken to the recycling place?

  1. clearly cardboard can be recycled.

it may be that where you are, pizza boxes are the most common forms of cardboard, and they're full of grease.

stuff which cannot be recycled must be taken to the dump, and the recycler will have to pay to do that.

  2. whsgreen is absolutely correct. Some places have people to sort it, others will simply toss the whole load into the landfill. My guess is that the big sign means they are going to trash the entire load as contaminated.

Do people think they printed the sign for fun????

  3. recyclel it...

  4. I believe that the card board and news paper will be sorted at it's final destination and then properly recycled. Since they are both wood products and therefore bio-degradable material this should not be a major problem for the recycling facility.  CLIFF

  5. it will go into the wrong part of the landfill unless someone would take and file it to the right part, and in our world today, that just ain't a happening.

  6. You will have to contact your waste managment department. Some facilites will sort it while others will consider it contaminated and toss the whole truck load.

  7. God people are stupid.  If it says no cardboard, then they mean no cardboard.  It will get thrown out!!!!!  In my area they don't recycle certain things, but those items could be recycled somewhere else,  my local recycling plant just throws them out because they don't have the equipment for them.

  8. well, it will al still be recycled since it came from the same material almost. but since it's a waste management it shouldn't be the case. there should still be a sperate space for the cardboards

  9. I don't know about your neighborhood, but other places I have lived, the recycle man just put it in the trash can.  Because there was not enough participation in the recycle program (according their rules), they stopped it.  Go figure.

  10. The cardboard will be recycled.  The notice not to dispose of cardboard is just there as a precaution.  The company has to sort out the contents before sending it to be recycled.  However, if there is cardboard in it, the company has to pay employees to take it out, which is a loss.  Therefore, the notice is written in hopes that people will listen and not dispose of their cardboard in that container.

And yes, it could be very well that the majority of the cardboard is dirty and greasy as the previous poster noted.

  11. Recyclying centers have employee's who sort the goods.  The cardboard will be seperated and recycled in a seperate area/facility.  This just makes the recycling program take more money to operate than it should to have wages going out to people who sort.  If people would show a little maturity (sp) maybe the program would expand a little faster.

  12. It will be recycled......................
