  1. I sometimes see on Racing Weekly a bit of coverage on Australian racing.. not much though.

I'm not sure its a given that Dutrow will enter Big Brown in the Preakness according to one article, he trains for a race, and has some concerns about comng back 2 weeks later. It sounds like he is entered , but not sure he will take the field again..

Here is the article if you've not read it.

  2. TVG shows Australian racing, but because of the time zones, it's on here at 10pm or so.  I think there's a really big australian race that gets a bit more attention... I don't remember what it's called, but I remember watching it and being amazed at how huge the field was.

Yes, all of the Derby horses are skipping the Preakness except for Big Brown.  Eight Belles may have made an appearance in Baltimore if she hadn't gotten hurt.  I think the Preakness field is going to be very weak.  Behindatthebar will be there, but I really think he's a synthetic horse... he's going to finish the Preakness like Monba finished the Derby.  I wonder if Denis of Cork's defection from the preakness field has anything to do with the deal that they made with Behindatthebar's connections.  Last year they kinda had an agreement that one would run the Derby and the other in the Preakness... but Denis of Cork's connections said they weren't honoring the agreement just to get into the Derby... but I wonder if they are not going to the preakness because of that.  We'll have to see who is running in the Preakness... I'm not really sure which horses are going... but yes, i think the field will be pretty weak.

Giving the trophy now might save us some work, but in horse racing anything can happen.  Big Brown might have an awful day... you just never know.  And if he's going to be a crown winner, he needs to earn it.  Running the preakness will probably be paramount to handing over the trophy right away, but it's a formality that we have to do.

Edit: latest developments say that Recapturetheglory will make an appearance in the Preakness!  That means there will be a truly honest pace.  Still, I expect Big Brown to make pretty easy work of the field unless someone like Kentucky Bear really steps up into a closer for this race.

  3. 1.hrtv and tvg both show racing from australia nightly.

2.Racing in the Preakness does not have the prestige as racing in the derby.  Will make a smaller field not necessarily weaker.

3.Just hand him the TRIPLE CROWN trophy right now.

  4. 1.  I live in Illinois and i have not seen or heard any coverage on Australian racing at all.

    2.  I guess we'll just have to wait and see who enters.  Big Brown will obviously go in as the favorite, but thats the joy of horse racing, you never know what will happen.

    3.  No way!

  5. Thanks for asking a good question!

Australian racing does not get "Mainstream" coverage, as really only the triple crown races get mainstream news coverage, however inside the industry, such as the magazine "The Bloodhorse" does keep track of Australian racing, including reports on the shuttle stallions and the Australian racing stars.

    2.  It will be smaller, however there will be some good horses to at least keep the race honest and not a walkover.

    3.   Heck no!
