  1. I've been to Heathrow 4 times. Once, a janitor dropped a bucketful of soapy water in the lift, and 3 guys took a slip. The janitor was fat, had a moustache and his nametag said Michael. If he's in the same lift as you are, you should worry more about broken limbs or sprained joints rather than getting stuck in a freefalling elevator and getting crushed. The elevators might get stuck if something fails, but they are designed not to freefall in the elevator shaft.

  2. if your talking about the british term for elevators then you can take the stairs and escalators by law they have to have stars if they are going to have a lift so you can take the stairs there isnt anything wrong with lifts they are  safe ive ridden 200 of them in the last month for fun and ive never got stuck in one so your going to be ok

  3. Don't worry lifts are safe and are routinely checked for maintenance.  Its only once in a blue moon that a lift may break down, and if so it usually will not fall, instead more often then not just ends up getting stuck inbetween floors which might happen during a power failure though this again hardly ever happens.  If this helps stand near the door, if you can, that way you won't feel trapped in the back and you can be close to the buttons if you feel you need to get off.

Maintenance usually occurs the first week of every month so it should be fine, and airport lifts are usually some of the best maintained.  I really hope this helps.

  4. Lifts are safe and fun. I got stuck in one once but I'm still here to tell the tale ! Don't worry, the plane will go far higher than the lift. I'd worry more about that !

  5. Hmmm.... they don't usually break.  Most elevators are pretty well maintained, especially in an airport.  Unless you're talking about a lift for cars.... then I have no clue.

  6. its all good just think that your goin to the heavenss

  7. You don't have to use the lifts at the Airport.  There is always an alternative, ramps / stairs / escalators.

If you tell me which terminal you are going from I can help you with the what there is there.  I work there !

If your mum and sister really insist that they use the lift you can always meet them on the next floor.  To be honest you really don't have to use lifts in Heathrow as there is always an alternative.

I won't lie to you and tell you there have never been problems with the lifts here, but it is a very rare occurance and something you really don't need to be worried about.
