I'm 36 weeks pregnant and now on weekly visits. I seen my midwife yesterday and through my whole pregnancy they have asked any burning stinging etc when going to the toilet? no. Any increase in discharge or the colour changed? no up until now, and i told them yesterday yes, yes I'm having a lot of discharge, enough to change my undies and the colour is yellow and it smells like s***n! And she didn't care, just said ok. What does it mean? why would they ask me every time i see them and when the answer was a yes they didn't even care? Does this mean something? I asked and she said oh don't worry about it.

Also i found out I'm positive to the GBS infection, the midwife again wasn't very helpful and i had to ask a few girlfriends and research it on the net but still would like a bit of advise from mums who have had the GBS infection and their bub was fine. I'm really worried.

Thank you for your help!

  1. That thick yellow discharge is common to have during pregnancy especially towards the end of you pregnancy....i go through the same thing and i absolutely hate it...but doc said it is normal so dont worry. being pregnant your natural level of bacteria increases due to high hormonal levels hence the extra discharge.....as far as the positive gbs test, from what i read they will have to put on antibiotics through iv during your dekivery to ensure that baby does bot catch it.....its safe that they found out about it now.....dont worry a lot of pregnant women have gbs and go on to have healthy babies.

  2. Being GBS+ is no big deal hun, they will start you on IV meds immediately when you get to the hospital and will continue through labor, its no concern so long as they get you the IV anitbiotics

  3. It sounds like your losing your mucus plug which is not serious at all and happens to all pregnant woman.  they ask earlier to make sure you are not losing your plug, so to speak.

I apologize i'm not well versed as to what the GBS infection is but your midwife would not risk your health if there was ANYTHING to worry about.

I also wouldn't have you worried needlessly.  I think you're just fine.

    Congrats on the boy!!!

  4. they ask those questions to make sure you dont have a yeast or bladder infection or anyother type of infection. the reason this time they just said okay was because this is normal discharge. in your last trimester and really around your last month you get heavier discharge. for the infection you do have i was put on meds with my oldest and that was that. she was fine.

  5. whats GBS and why don't you get a real doctor maybe you'll feel better.

  6. She is probably asking about your discharge to see if your 'mucus plug' has come out yet, it can come weeks before labour... and is often just like a discharge. as for GBS, i was positive, i had an injection of antibiotics when i was in labour and was attatched to a drip after my baby girl was born for about 8 hours.  other than that, they checked my girls temperature every 4 hours for around the first 24 hours and she is perfectly fine. Dont stress about GBS, lots of people are positive, but its only when you dont know you have it and drugs arnt administered that it can actually harm the baby.

Good Luck hun, you'll be fine =]

  7. I had a similar discharge late in my pregnancy. they tested for yeast infection but that proved negative so there was no worries - it was put down to normal discharge. I am sure your midwife would investigate further if she was concerned however raise your concerns with her - it's her job to reassure you! As for GBS I have attached a good site for you to explore. Best of luck.

  8. you have nothing to worry about I am 37 weeks and I have the same thing. I read about it in my book as well. It is related to strep throat and it is a bacterium that is found in the vaginas of healthy women(be glad that you are healthy) but it is completely harmless but it can get to baby as just a strep throat and they will give you antibiotics before you deliver in the delivery room.

  9. I have no idea what gbs is, but I do know that there is going to be something gooey coming out down there.  As long as it is not a lot of blood then I think you are ok.  If there was something wrong, then your doctors would have said something.  Next time, if you are not sure about something with your pregnancy, make your doctor take the time to answer your questions.  A nurse at my ob/gyn once told me, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease!"  In other words, do not be afraid to ask questions no matter how dumb you may think the question might be.

  10. She is right, there is nothing to worry about discharge is normal. you should only worry about the discharge is if has a really bad odor to it. discharge is normal in pregnancy. everything is fine. hope this helps a little bit. and don't worry they would tell you if there was something to worry about ... good luck

oh ... i am sorry but i don't know anything about GBS. sorry
