1. why does chlorophyll appear green to us? 2.What happens to the leaves of green plants when they are placed in the dark for about one week? why is this so?

  1. Just one thing to add--this is how white asparagus is made.  See the link below.


  2. 1) Chlorophyll appears green to us as it absorbs all wavelengths of the visible light spectrum EXCEPT green, which it "reflects". The reflected green light is what we see.

    2) Most likely die. Sunlight is required for the conversion of CO2 and water into oxygen (a by-product) and glucose (photosynthesis) for respiration to produce ATP. Without being able to produce ATP there is no energy for any cellular processes in the plant, and so it dies.  

  3. 1.Chlorophyll appears green because it absorbs other wavelengths of light and reflects green.

    2.They lose their green colour and appear yellowish and pale because light is need to make chlorophyll and will be described as etiolated.(see link1.)
