which one is better?auditor or lecturer or gov.servant?

i'm account stud..next year i will finish my study..

i'm really confused to choose my career..

for me, i really enjoyed with management works n social..

i'm flexible..

can u help me to choose it?in term of salary,opportunitty,life..

plez answer it properly..

i myself dont know what to do..   i have to please both my parent .. but the main problem is both my parent have differrent career they want me to be. so to please them i have to take foundation juz to extend my time to think .. now im free la.. but after i graduate? im gonna be in dilemma again! what  i wanna be?!?!

can i take other answerers advice for myself too? cuz i also need this kind of help..

I'm an accounting grad (who actually hate numbers), so this is my from my own observation based on my and my friends' experiences. There is no right or worng path to be chosen. The most important thing is you have to know what you really expect in life, which is not necessarily money.

Auditor - intially very low pay with only basic benefits even if you work in big firms like PwC and EY, worse if you work with smaller firms. Futhermore, it is very stressfull, not mentioning mindblowingly boring as Tony Fernandez (AirAsia) said. You'll have lots of works with tight deadlines and some of my auditor friends even had to sleep in the clients' office. But if you think of long term, this a good start to gain valuable experiences and knowledge esp if you really love numbers (unlike me) and really want to stick in accounting area. Furthermore, being an auditor is necessary if you want to be a certified public accountant (CPA) but you'll still have to take further studies under professional bodies like ACCA or MICPA (sigh...need money some more).

Accountant -  that means, have a job in an accounting department in a company do a real accounting work instead of doing auditing i.e nothing more than checking other ppl's works that you yourself cannot understand. Less stress than being an auditor in public firm and you'll receive better salary and benefits as well esp if you work with large companies. You still can be a member of professional bodies if you can fork out money for further studies, but not a CPA in Malaysia coz MIA requires a few years of public practice to be recognised as CPA.

Govt servant - actually depends. Generally, gov servant is less stressfull (by high degree), many spare time but the pay usually is not that much and promotion is slow. However, if you love peace of mind with many time to spend with you friends and family then it is okay. Furthermore, your job is secured as you don't have to fear for economic downturn, company got closed down, VSS etc. But if you work for IRB, they offer better pay and many companies seek to hire experienced IRB staff as their tax advisor.

Lecturer - good reputation and better benefits than govt servant. But you need a masterate degree for this. Else, just be a teacher.

When you have finished your studies, you have not actually learned anything.  You start learning when you start working, and this is what your studies prepared you for-how to think and solve problems.

As an accounts student, it would be good to start in auditing to get experience in a working environment, how to interact with colleagues and management, how to deal with office politics,   and which give your ideas how a company is actually administered and managed.  After a few years of experience and getting the professional qualifications, you can think about going into management, or private pratice....  You can be a good lecturer only when you have some years of working experience...,e.g. when you become a " Fellow" of an accounting institution....

As for "opportunities, etc..."  you will get to know them when you start working...

As a fresh grad, u should start in an MNC. U will be able to work in a very vast environment, dont go for govt job,, (sorry no offence) Your basic salary will be more than 2k in Mnc's.

With good basic start,, your market value will be higher.

Then, after a few years (5-7 yrs) you can move to an audit firm for a senior or managerial position.

U can start doing your survey on the companies requirements and offers.

auditor - loads of work and time-consuming, but if you can stand long working hours, go on.

lecturer - lecturer is pretty much a decent job, but sorry to let u down pal, but u must have at least a msc degree (that's the new criteria i heard), plus, they wont take a fresh without any experience, plus, kids today are very very fussy, if they (even the 1st yr students) dont think u're good, they'll soon send their objection (and mind you, not to the dean, but straight to the vc himself!!)

gov. servant - low basic with slow increment, but as you all know, its more relaxing in terms of work loads... so if u're ok with it, go ahead..

these are only the cons.

the pros, well, after graduation, u still need to practice ur knowledge afterall, so it doesnt matter where do u land to, its the experience that u gain...

i vote fer lecturer..

govt.servant : office politics is sux.

lecturer: flexible. very good deeds..u teach ppl..ppl know..like chekgu/teacher la..

auditor: u can gain lotsa money provided u are stress-imune..

Lecturer... very rigid, you're stuck teaching and researching one subject.

Auditor... better because people respect and fear you more and will open up your horizon since you like socializing and you're flexible.

Govt. servant... forget it!
