  1. Solar energy is a great alternative energy source that we have barely tapped into in North America.  It is clean and green and worth the effort to research and make it affordable for everyone!  Even those without the funds to add solar panels can choose to build or buy a home with a passive solar design - to take advantage of the sun's free source of warmth. http://www.building-your-green-home.com/...

Nuclear energy is also a possibility for replacement the high cost of fossil fuels - the industry is thriving in my area.  See this page about it  http://www.building-your-green-home.com/...

All of the above are viable options - now for those to get serious about making them feasible and affordable - and for the government to offer incentives for these options  - that would be a great start.

    Hope this helps.

  2. Solar energy is good, but I think our best option is not to rely on just one form of energy generation, but on various sources.  Solar may work good in most places, but it's best suited for places like Arizona or California, whereas wind power might be better in the midwest or other windy areas.  Geothermal I think is a great source of power that's often overlooked.  It can provide base load power to utilities, which means it can produce power 24/7, unlike solar or wind.  Nuclear is good so long as the waste is safely disposed of, and that can be very difficult to get the utilities to pay for that.  Hydroelectric, at least in the US, has mostly been used up.  We've dammed up pretty much every river that we could, and while we can keep using it, we can't really create more power from hydroelectric sources.  Hydrogen and boimass (if you're referring to ethanol) aren't really ready to be widely adopted yet, the technology needs more work for them to become more cost competitive with other sources of power.

  3. Ans a. At any given spot on the surface of the earth, the sun shines for less than 12 hours in which the solar energy can be harnessed. Harnessing solar energy is a very expensive affair at the moment. It also consumes real estate that can alternatively be used for vegetation. Maga constructions for the production of energy disturbs the local ecology drastically, so the infrastructure should be small. Huge dams and nuclear power plants that have already been built should be used intelligently. We do not need more of those.

Whoever said nuclear energy is environment friendly may please meet me in the boxing ring.

Tropical areas of our planet get the most sunlight. But they harbor vegetation too. So, solar energy should be harvested at a "personal use" level all around the world. Covering a desert with a huge solar cells blanket is ok. but please keep in mind that no desert is entirely "desert".

I think we should have a group of energy sources as our main source of energy in the future. Solar, wind, offshore turbines and, hydroelectric are suitable candidates.

Ans b. Offshore turbines (generic). They can be installed throughout the coasts around the world. Cost effective, clean, low maintainance, works 24/7, does not affect marine life that much, lots of energy, and not an eye sore.

  4. Believe it should be one of the primary sources.

    b. hydroelectric
