  1. Cattle will politely stay in their pasture until it runs out of grass, then break down the fence and eat wherever they feel like.

When a cow needs a bull, she can tell bulls from miles away that she is ready... heck, if you practise that special bawling, you can play a trick on the bulls too.

Cows as a group will come at a dead run if a calf is bawling because it is afraid or hurt, ready to do battle. (Yes, if you practise that bleating you can get the cows out of the field without walking all over to get them.)

Cows rumen contains a real yogurt machine, a lot of bacteria that will convert cheap starch and sugar plus a source of nitrogen, into a wide variety of very useful proteins, vitamins. Now this is important to us because it makes beef and cow's milk so nutritious, but it is also very useful for the cow too.

Cattle have something that we also have, but much more of it. A thick layer of leather over the back and sides of the neck that makes it just a bit harder for predators to kill them. Butcher shops however go round that barrier.

  2. Maybe their 4 stomachs.

  3. bovines have a unique social structure that encourages them to look after each other including the adoption of another's calf's....

standing gaurd ( you will see 4 or 5 cows standing at the fringe of a herd.....they are looking for predators...and will warn the herd)....

this is a more modern adaption..... but cows will hustle to their milking parlor or feeding area with near precision in time.... (if they are milked at 5pm....then they show up at 455pm) etc..

  4. 4 stomaches ( rumen, reticulum, abomasum and omasum ..sp?), their thick hide, hooves, tail, ears, tounge, positioning of eyes ,etc

    hope this helps

  5. Dairy cows are bred to produce more milk and eat higher fat and protein diets in order to be more profitable... thats a sort of forced adaptation.

Beef cows are breed to produce better meat... again sort of a forced adaptation.

Also North american cattle are adapted to our climate because they are originaly from hotter areas... most of our domestic cows are decendents of the brama and zebu I think.

  6. Cows have been bred for different tasks. Taking traits and breeding those traits to best acheive an aim has been the the goal of farming. Cows are bred to have no natural horns (naturally polled) or to have a heavy frame therefore to carry more muscle (meat) such as the beef breeds and also to produce milk of sufficient quantity and quality (butter fat) as required by the market. The dairy cows are also bred to have udder composition to facilitate the milking process. The answer probably required focuses on the differential between dairy and beef and also that some are naturally polled. Hope this is OK. regards Phil from UK

If you feel the question relates to adaptations to survive then yes the cow has developed 4 stomachs to gain maximum energy from it food.
